With the school summer holidays now upon us, wait for the adverts to start appearing on the TV about school uniform. The kids have had an odd time of school during 2020, with lots of us homeschooling but hopefully September will bring with it some clarity about getting back to normal. With the return to school only a few weeks away, let’s talk school uniforms. I’ve my own experience about where I prefer to buy from and I’ve been told that Asda school uniform are the best. But where do you get yours from?
Dedicated Uniform Shops
You might have to go to the local dedicate school uniform shop in order to get a jumper with the school logo on. These are often requirements for going to the school, part of the uniform process. It’s probably the only place you can get it from too so you’ll just have to suck up that cost and buy the jumper. The school uniform shop will likely also sell trousers and PE kit and everything else you might need. The thing is, it will be pricey. Don’t buy anything from there that doesn’t have a school logo on. Why would you pay £10 for a pair of school trousers you could get for £5?
Supermarket Specials
Supermarkets are your friends when you’re looking for school uniforms. Asda school uniform is supposed to be very good. Head wearing and usually has a guarantee, perfect for those knee slides that kids do! There are other supermarkets too though and they are usually similar priced or you might save a quid or two here and there. Tesco school uniform is good and Aldi school uniform has rave reviews. You can also get items from the Debenhams school uniform section and the Matalan school uniform offers. School uniforms are things we need when we send our children to school but with more places than ever trying to cash in on selling tops, shirts and trousers, you can play your own game and get it for the best price possible. Would you agree with some of my parent friends that Asda school uniform is the best, or do you buy from other shops? Let me know on Twitter.

Buy Online
Look at what is listed on the school uniform requirements and look for cheaper alternatives. Our kids, for example, can wear a red hoodie on PE days. You can buy one with the school logo for £15, or it states you can simply have a plain one. A plain red hoodie is £6 on Amazon so that gives you a decent ballpark figure and a realistic saving. You could do the same thing for PE shorts, polo shirts and summer dresses.
One of the worst things is school shoes. Around here, we have a local shoe shop and they book up appointments so people wanting to take their kids to get their new school shoes. What we did is order from Wynsors Shoes. Its free delivery if you spend over £20 and you can return them too. I think Treads shoes look great as they have a 12 month indestructible guarantee. Also, Clarks have announced that if your kids outgrow their school shoes before February, they’ll replace them for free.
Fortunately we have just bought our kids the same shoes each year in the new size their feet are. We know they’ll fit and we know they’ll last. Job done. With that said, buy a decent pair of shoes. You don’t want to pay £15 for a pair which are going to break after a term. That’s three lots of £15 and three pairs of broken shoes when you could have got a decent pair for £40 which would hold up for the full school year and beyond. Buy cheap, buy twice, or thrice!
Second Hand
Don’t be afraid to look for second hand school uniforms. There will likely be people in your local area who have uniform they no longer need with plenty of miles left in them. The end of year school fair at our children’s school usually has a second hand stall where you can get a jumper for £1. These are perfect, even if you just use them for spares. It’s better than them ending up in landfill! The less time worrying about uniform lets you concentrate on your kids & the help with assignments.
School uniforms can be expensive but if you look for the right places to buy it it doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. Asda school uniform is great but there are lots of other ways to buy it and save even more. Support your local school uniform shop for what you need to and then look for bargains elsewhere. Take a look at supermarkets selling off uniform too when the kids have returned to school. You might be able to save even more and buy next year’s tops and trousers in the sale!
