We love birthdays as kids, we’re not a huge fan of them as we get older. When you are of working age you might not want to celebrate that much but you should definitely take your birthday off work. Here are five great reasons why.

It’s Your Day
This is your birthday. You can do what you want. Doing what you want n your birthday is a great way to celebrate. Working isn’t celebrating. You could be a keen photographer who loves getting out into the fresh air. You might love hitting the roads on your motorbike and going for a long ride to blow away the cobwebs. Maybe you just want a day to put your feet up and catch up with the binge watchable box set you haven’t been able to keep up with. Whatever you enjoy doing, use your birthday to do it.
Some Companies Give The Day Off
There are several companies out there who give you your birthday off work to do with what you wish. This is a great gesture and it goes some way to boosting morale. It shows employees that they are valued and they’re worth something by giving them a special day off work. Rather than using some of your allocated holiday time to enjoy your birthday, these companies are recognising the fact that it’s a nice thing to do.
You Avoid Office Birthday Cringe
Having to open a card in front of people. Turing up at your desk covered in balloons. Unwrapping a present that shows that your colleagues know little of you. It can be awkward and cringe worthy. You might also have to pay to go to a lunch that you’d rather not bother with, just because it’s team building. We spend a lot of our lives in the workplace, with the same colleagues. Do you really want to do the same old thing on your special day?

Put Yourself First
How often do you put yourself at the top of the list? Your birthday should be a reason to do that. Taking your birthday off work lets you put yourself first. Even if you just go for a walk or head to the beach to watch the waves lap against the shore, it’s self care time.
You Only Get So Many
It’s not just another Monday, or Thursday. It’s your birthday. Life is short and birthdays should be celebrated. Finding fun and reasons to celebrate in the often mundane is so important. It can bring happiness, allow you to make memories and let you spend time with people you love. Birthdays are reasons to celebrate.
These are just a handful of reasons why you shouldn’t be working on your birthday. Of course, sometimes it’s unavoidable and you do have to work your birthday. In those cases, give yourself another day to celebrate and do what you want in lieu of that birthday. Book your birthday off work every year and you’ll appreciate the 24 hours of you time. However you decide to celebrate, or not celebrate, it’s your call.
