I love coffee as much as the next person. There’s nothing like a delicious Americano during the day or Cappuccino after a meal. Have you ever considered exactly how much money you’re spending on coffee? Let’s take a look and see where you can cut back on the cost of those beans!

What Do You Drink?
Let’s say you buy one coffee every work day of the week. Then you have one on a Saturday too. That’s six coffees a week you’re paying for. If we average the cost of them at £3, which is quite cheap for a coffee shop drink, that’s £18 a week. £72 a month. £936 a year! Maybe you buy more than that, three takeout coffees every day between Monday to Friday works out at £2340 a year! Regardless of what you’re job is, that’s a lot of money to be spending on coffee. Let’s cut that cost down!
Take Your Own
Make your own flask in the morning and drink that on your commute to the office instead of buying one. Even if you don’t have a flask, buy one. It’ll soon pay for itself in the money you save every day! It’ll likely stay warmer for longer too! You’ll need some coffee beans to brew up a delicious coffee for your journey to work. You can get these from an independent coffee shop if you still want to show support, or simply get them from the supermarket shelf for a couple of quid.
Use The Office Coffee
Whilst many offices only have instant coffee, drink that! It’s free! Even if you use the walk to the coffee shop to chat with colleagues or get some time away from your desk, what’s stopping you making a cup of java and going to sit down outside for a little? Or chatting with colleagues in an empty meeting room?

Your Own Desk Coffee
If you’re a bit of a coffee connoisseur, why not get your own cafetiere for you desk? A bag of freshly ground beans from the local coffee shop or shop shelf will last you ages and you just need boiling water from the office kitchen and a mug. That delicious aroma you send floating through the office will cause envy from your colleagues and it’ll certainly cost back the money you were spending on coffee.
Go Cheaper
If you still insist on going to the coffee shop now and again, find one where the drink are cheaper. Independent retailers are usually a little bit cheaper than franchises coffee houses. That said, McDonalds have coffee for as little as 99p and have a great loyalty scheme too. Speaking of loyalty schemes, there are some great ones which actually decently reward you and some which only give you a drink after you’ve spent a small fortune. If you usually spend £3 or more on a drink, switch to a filter coffee which is much cheaper and usually comes with free refills. This could be perfect if you regularly work from a coffee shop if you’re a freelancer, for instance.
Stop spending on coffee like money is going out of fashion. It’s coffee at the end of the day and there are lots of ways to get it for less than the £5.69 it might cost for a large skinny mocha latte with an extra shot.
