Lots of us want to do our bit for the environment. So often it seems that in doing that, you have to spend money you don’t necessarily have. In this blog post I want to demonstrate and discuss how that’s not always the case.

Plastic Free Stores

There are lots of plastic free shops popping up in towns and communities across the land. This simply helps you to use less plastic in your everyday life. Rather than buying a bag of pasta in a single use plastic bag, you take your container along to the shop and fill it with pasta. This means you get the pasta you want without creating plastic waste which will then be thrown away. The same with hand soap, shampoo, cereal. You can even buy other things from round the home that you might need, without the plastic being involved. From toothbrushes to deodorant, cotton buds to straws. You can even get beeswax wraps for your daily sandwiches which can be wiped and reused to cut down on the need for cling film. These items aren’t expensive when you consider the life of they. They pay for themselves in no time.

Eco Friendly For Business

I’ve been trying to implement changes in my business in order to cause less strain on the environment. My computer used to be switched to ‘sleep’ instead of switched off, because it’s quicker to get started first thing in the morning. But reorganising my routine and going to switch my computer on before I make my cup of tea means it can be witching on whilst I’m doing something else. It doesn’t stop there though. I send a lot of parcels out and I’ve decided to change the way that I send them. No more single use plastic in my packaging. I now use envelopes and packaging boxes which are plastic free and ocean friendly. I want my business to have an impact on this world but I don’t want it to impact the world in a negative way when I’m no longer here.

Easy Changes

We can all make little changes in our everyday walks of life. Taking a few extra minutes in the morning to make your own drink in a reusable flask or eco friendly bottle is just a start. One of the best ways to lessen your impact on the environment is to walk places. If you do get up earlier, walk to work rather than driving your car. You’ll be doing more for your health as well as lessening your effect on the planet. You’ll save some money too!

Sustainability seems to come with the idea that it will likely cost more. But it doesn’t always have to. When you consider that these products will likely be used for longer and last longer too. These plastic free products and eco friendly ideas are also coming from small businesses, so you’re supporting an independent trader who is trying to help the planet. You also need to look beyond the monetary cost and see the cost on the environment. If I can switch up my business equipment and supplies, I hope that you can make some small changes too.
