As the country starts to come out of lockdown, I wanted to look back at just what my home allowed me to do during those five months of isolation. It’s not been an easy time but it’s certainly made us all appreciate the home we have.

Somewhere To Work From

One of the first things to appreciate is the area I have to work from. Lots of people got thrown into working from home overnight. Their broadband wasn’t up to the task. Mobile phones were ringing off the hook. There was no split between home life and work life. I’m so thankful that I work from home anyway because it offers a freedom and the ability to see my family more. However during lockdown is was even better. Being able to go to my office and try and keep some essence of a business flowing was great. It was also fantastic to be able to shut the door on one. I feel for those people working from their kitchen tables. My office is fantastic.

Bright & Airy

Our home is bright and airy. This has been so important at keeping us sane during lockdown. Being stuck inside all the time isn’t good for anyone. We crave being able to roam free. But for the health of the nation we all have to make sacrifices. The light streaming in through our windows brought the outdoors in and allowed us to see a little bit of nature. A well as drawing rainbows on them, of course! With a new baby in the house, we isolated earlier and have stayed indoors a lot more since lockdown has been lifted too. Our windows are a connection to the outside. If you need new windows, check out Three Counties Windows.

Outdoor Space

We moved to this house from a two bedroom with a tiny yard. There was very little outdoor space. Our garden here, even though it’s not huge, gives us the space we need. Even just walking round it or hanging the washing on the line was good for the soul. The kids missed the park so we set up activities in our outdoor space for them to burn off some energy and kick a ball around. I love our garden and will be making more use of it from here on in.

Safe & Secure

Our home is safe and secure. Big enough that we’ve been able to have our own space away from one another to have some normality but small enough that we can be a family together during one of the strangest times we’ll ever live through. We’ve been able to see friends and family through our windows as they’ve been enjoying their own family walks. We’ve enjoyed movie nights, running out of essentials and sometimes baking cookies!

What I’d Change

If there was one thing I’d change it would be out kitchen. It’s a galley kitchen and there are five of us in the family. Three sons means a lot of food is consumed. Everyone always seem hungry. Having a bigger kitchen would help give us extra space in the kitchen to cook and actually move around without bumping into one another. It might be in our future to get a new kitchen but right now, I’m just thankful we’ve been able to eat, drink and live together safely, in the comfort of our own home.
