Just when you thought that Lidl and Aldi were the kings of the budget stores, Mere supermarket is due to open in the United Kingdom this year. It’s a Russian shop that will open in the UK shortly and it’s set to be up to 30% cheaper than it’s established rivals.
Who Are Mere?
According to their own Mere supermarket website, which itself is in need of a makeover, the store says:
We are a fast-growing, ambitious team that is currently working intensively on the future of the company.
Our profile is the retail chain in the food sector that offers its customers good goods for little money. We work according to the motto “only lowest prices every day”. They have no marketing, minimal service and only eight members of staff per store.
Where Will Mere Supermarket Open?
Currently there are four stores being eyed up, the first Mere supermarket arriving on a former Nisa site in Preston. Castleford in West Yorkshire, Caldicot in South Wales and Mold in North Wales will also be getting a shop. On top of those shops they are also looking at locations in Scotland, Devon, Bradford, Sheffield, Southampton and many other spots. They currently operate in many European countries.

What Will They Sell?
All the shopping you need! Fresh and frozen goods that you know, with up to 1200 items on no-frills aisles. When they opened their first Mer supermarket in Germany, they sold out of all their stock in just 2 days. A store in Latvia had almost 600 people queuing to get in on opening day. There could be some great items to get your hands on. Filling your cupboards, fridges and freezers for even less!
Will you be checking out this new budget supermarket arriving on the UK shores? Saving an extra 30% on already affordable prices from the likes of Aldi and Lidl could be a game changer for many families struggling or on a tight budget right now.
