I’ve cut back on the clothing I wear. I used to have loads of different items of attire which filled my wardrobe and drawer unit. After reading about the benefits of a minimalist wardrobe, or some call it a capsule wardrobe, I decided this was definitely for me!
What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?
Let’s start with the obvious question. What is a capsule wardrobe, or a minimalist wardrobe? It’s cutting your clothing right back to a small collection which feels less overwhelming. I decided to do this and cut back to a handful t-shirts in my correct size, found jeans that are comfortable that I know I can get from the same place should I need them. There is no real decision for me to make every morning. I go to my drawers get a pair socks, pants, trousers and a t-shirt out, then sling a hoodie on top. I’m self employed so maybe this is easier for me? But plenty of business people in the city do this too. It seems like a great idea in theory but what are the other benefits of doing it?

Less Decisions
One of the reasons I decided to do it was because I wanted less decisions to make every day. Many people suffer from decision fatigue so removing one of those from the start of your day is definitely a good thing. I’ve found it quite freeing. Going to the wardrobe and having less decisions to make.
More Time
Removing that decision every day frees your time up for other things. How often have you tried putting an outfit together but then take it off to try a different shirt or skirt. You could use that time to put together a more wholesome breakfast, get to earlier bus to work so you aren’t rushing as much, spend a few extra minutes of time with the loved ones in your life.
Less Money Spent
If you know exactly what you want, where you want it from and what size you need, you can buy it easily. You can even wait for it to be on offer and bulk buy. How often have you bought something you go off, or don’t actually like when you get home and try it on in different light? This frees up cash for other areas of your life.
More Wear
You get a lot more wear out of your clothes. This means the money you’ve spent on individual items is worth it. How many times have you bought a dress and only worn it once. Suddenly the £80 you shelled out for it for a one time wear is a lot of money! Whereas if you spend £80 on a dress you wear one a week for three years, that’s a fantastic money to wearing ratio!
Less Comparison
You’ll find yourself comparing your clothes a lot less. Not only from one outfit to another, but to other people as well. This is the clothing you’re comfortable in. This is the decision you have made. You don’t need a new jacket just because it’s a new season. The jacket you always wear is perfect!

More Compliments
You might even find you get more compliments on your outfit and your mood in general. You’ll be known for being the person who wears those dresses with passion. Or the guy who always wears a bright t-shirt in the office. Being confident in your own skin and clothing also helps you look more confident and this will be noticed.
A Higher Sense Of Gratefulness
Being able to clothe yourself is a high deal in this world. Many people don’t have that opportunity. They have to wear what they can get their hands on and so many people go to bed cold every night because they don’t have clothing. You’ll be grateful for the clothing you have in your minimalist wardrobe. You don’t need a lot but what you do have you are beyond grateful for.
A Recipe For Success
A number of high profile business people do this including Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Look at how successful he has become. Removing those decisions and not being worried about what you’r wearing allows you to concentrate on other things in your life. Maybe you fancy giving this capsule wardrobe idea a go? I’d thoroughly recommended it. The minimalist wardrobe is the future!
